  • Changes in heart screening practices in the military over time
  • Key results from the ERASE study, which screened 15,000+ Air Force trainees for heart risks
  • How genetics helps to identify inherited heart conditions in service members, veterans, and their families

Moderator: Faith Kelly, MD, FACC
Speakers: Mark C. Haigney, MD, FACC; Marc Alaric Franzos, MD, MPH, FACC

Together, we can close the gap in sudden cardiac death prevention for those who serve.

Free Heart Screenings for JROTC Cadets!

2025/26 Dates and locations for youth heart screenings in Puget Sound area high schools by the Nick of Time Foundation
can be found on their Youth Heart Screening page.
Thanks to your generous donations, we are able to offer free cardiac screenings to Puget Sound area JROTC cadets, through a partnership with the Nick of Time Foundation!  Screenings consist of a Heart Health Survey for symptoms and family history, an ECG that analyzes the electrical signals of the heart, and review by medical professionals on site.  A simple ECG can identify certain serious heart conditions that cannot be detected with a stethoscope.   Additionally, each cadet will learn CPR and how to use an AED (defibrillator).  Other pre-military students or military members between the ages of 14-24 can also apply for this $25 scholarship. When you make your appointment, be sure to indicate “JROTC” in the registration so that Lion Heart Heroes will know to pay the recommended fee.
